| dc.description.abstractotrodioma | Previous reports have demonstrated various degrees of hypnotic effectiveness of triazolam. Most of these, however, used subjective patient or physician evaluation and many were single dose. Consequently, this study was undertaken. Eight subjects were polygraphically recorded during 7 nightly hours in various experimental situations, under double-blind cross-over study design, in order to analyze the effects of 0.25 and 0.50 mg triazolam. Each subject was subjected to two habituation nights followed by one control night and then received either dose during 5 consecutive days, with a one-week interval between both as a washout period. The fourth and fifth night of each period were studied. Only the latter was evaluated. The results showed that the 0.5-mg dose produced a significant increase in the total sleep time, a significant increase in phase 2 and a significant decrease in the number of nightly movements. The 0.25-mg dose caused a significant decrease in the number of awakenings, and both doses brought a significant decrease in the REM phase. The side effects found included a slight motor incoordination during the treatment, more pronounced with the higher dose. These results on the polysomnogram are similar to the ones produced by tricyclic antidepressants and other benzodiazepines. | es_ES |
