The release mechanism of immunoreactive Met- and Leu-enkephalins was studied by radioimmunoassay (RIA) with highly specific antisera in whole perioesophageal ganglia of the snail Helix aspersa. 2. The release was measured under three different experimental situations: (a) basal release, (b) during a high potassium depolarizing pulse and (c) without Ca2+.3. Our results show that IR-ME-IR-LE ratio, under a high potassium depolarizing pulse, was approximately 2:1. The release mechanism for enkephalins is enhanced by a depolarizing pulse and is Ca2+ dependent. 4. This preparation provides a good model to investigate physiological or pathological conditions in which opioid peptides are involved. | es_ES |
